GARDAI HAVE COMMENCED a murder investigation following the violent death of a woman in north Dublin today.

Shortly before 3.30pm, Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of the body of a woman, aged in her 50s, in a house in Sandyhill Gardens. The body of the woman, which had received physical injuries, has been removed to the City Morgue, Whitehall.

The scene is currently preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau are conducting a technical examination. The services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested. A post mortem will be carried out by the Chief State Pathologist Linda Mulligan tomorrow Wednesday 11 May, 2022.

An incident room has been established at Ballymun Garda Station under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer. A family liaison officer has been appointed to the family of the deceased.

Investigating Gardaí continue to have an open mind in the direction of this investigation

The woman, who was well-liked in the area, was described as a friendly mother who “doted on her children”.

Gardai were this evening carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

One neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said: “I knew her to see alright. It’s shocking altogether. She doted on her little ones. God love them. The poor woman. I hope they get who did it quickly.”

No arrests have been made so far.

A Garda spokesperson said that “the investigation into this incident is at an early stage and no further information is available at this time.”
